Our Story and History

How It All Began

HRO was born out of the dire need for humanitarian assistance in Somalia during one of the country’s worst crises—devastating civil war and famine. A group of local volunteers and professionals banded together to form a dedicated organization to assist those most in need. With the aim of bringing aid to the poorest and hardest-to-reach areas, HRO began working in the fields of water, food security, health, and protection.

Growth and Expansion

Since its founding, HRO has grown significantly, expanding its operations across Somalia, Kenya, and South Sudan. As the scope of our work increased, so did our impact. From responding to emergencies to fostering sustainable development, we have continuously adapted to the changing needs of the communities we serve.

“Founded in 2011 by dedicated volunteers, HRO has grown into a leading humanitarian organization, committed to empowering vulnerable communities across Somalia, Kenya, and South Sudan.”
